DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Looking and feeling your best in a professional work environment:

  • When is it okay to bring your personal style to work?
  • How much flexibility do I have with these rules?
  • How do I balance being feminine with being professional?

1. Principles to Dress by:

  • Accentuate the positive: Know your best features
  • Acknowledge the protocols in your industry: Follow your cue from respected coworkers
  • Adapt, yet be yourself! Confidence is your best asset

2. Head to Toe Style:

  • Hair: Neatly style and clean absolute best
  • Make-up/Grooming: Classic nudes best bet
  • Jewelry and Accessories: Try small-medium hoop earrings
  • Blouses and Shirts: To make a statement, do wear color or a great white shirt
  • Belts: Great over a cardigan and/or jacket to change up the look
  • Skirts and Slacks: Must have a pencil skirt, classic pant and a little black dress
  • Hose and Socks: Tights are a definite do and an instant fashion update!
  • Shoes: A classic pump or an “on the go” flat

3. Attire at the Client:

  • Always dress at the level of the client manager or above

- Never dress less than “business casual” unless client has specifically stated a preference for casual

- Always ask in advance about the dress at a new client (unless you want to but a suit in an airport)

  • When in doubt, dress more formally

- You can always take off the jacket

  • Dress conservatively, but not necessarily Victorian

- Use the “would my mother approve?” rule of thumb

- If you are in doubt, choose another outfit

- Ask yourself what kind of first impression you want to make

- You represent thousands of Deloitte member firm professionals

- Be aware of how much you “reveal”; many of our clients are very conservative

- Ask a colleague or your manager for a second opinion, if in doubt

  • Keep hair neat, stylish, and manageable

4. General Guidelines:

The proper attire for a particular situation depends on many variables. These are the things that are typically required. However, use your best judgment.

  • Business formal/professional

- Pant/dress suits

- Blouse, shirt, shell

- Panty Hose

- Close toe shoes

  • Business casual

- Slacks/skirts/dresses

- Jackets

- Blouses, shirts, sweaters, tops

- Tights, hose optional

- Boots, pumps, slingbacks, Flats

5. General Guidelines:

The proper attire for a particular situation depends on many variables.

  • Occasion/event

- Management or sales presentations are most formal

- Day to day client work varies

- Interviewing/recruiting events are normally formal

- The member firm’s offices could be formal or business casual depending on the office

- Member firm social/networking events are normally business casual

- Firm “casual” social events are still firm events

6. Things to Avoid:

  • Showing too much leg of cleavage
  • Never show your belly or wear see-through tops
  • Bare shoulders (tube, tank, sleeveless) – you will need a sweater or jacket to cover up
  • Avoid leather, sequins and glitter. If you look like you’re heading to a night club, think again!
  • Wearing clothes that are too tight
  • Wearing leggings as pants and not hosiery
  • Clothes that are not properly tailored
  • Too much eye shadow
  • Overstated jewelry
  • Bright colored lip stick (hot pink, bright red)
  • Nail art, chipped polish
  • Stained clothes
  • Scuffed shoes

 7. Benefits of a Personal Stylist:

  • They broaden your view
  • They tailor the trends
  • They respect your age and unique needs
  • They aren’t emotionally attached
  • They save you money

Ralph Lauren Collection Fall 2012

The Ralph Lauren Collection Fall 2012 oozes elegance. It’s perfect for any occasion being photographed.

Burberry AW 12/13 Women’s Prorsum Inspiration

Did You Know: The Burberry AW 12/13 Women’s Prorsum  Collection was inspired by 3 themes. First, the “English Sartorial,” a refined city theme with tailored wool and rainwear. The second, “Country,” inspired by the British countryside, featuring waxed cotton jackets and bomber jackets with velvet trim. And lastly, “Evening,” with padded down-filled coats and jackets with feminine silhouettes. These themes are very evident throughout the collection.
